“Arm’s Length Away” is a series of 6 risograph posters that act as a visual exploration of success, religion, and family within a second-generation Latinx household. The poster designs are composed of the family images, words heard and recorded, and symbolic objects that keep me tied to my culture. Moments throughout the works, such as Jesus, paired with the inverted Sign of the Cross, examine the fear and comfort that comes from moments of witnessing religious reflection, reconciling with previous generations, and making a place for myself within my family.

This body of work is intended to continue dialogue within the Latinx community, about 'home' in the U.S, and how it appears visually within the concept of the American dream. “Arm’s Length Away” makes tangible the puzzle pieces that were assumed I would never find, contrasted with the pieces that I am lucky enough to have lost intentionally. What do I use as markers of success for myself within a system that chooses not to serve me? I sit at the table regardless.

This installation is currently accessible to the public at 3125 Washington Street in Boston, Ma. It will be up through early November 2020 via the support of AREACODE Art Fair,  Space Us, and the Egleston Square Main Street community.
